COGS History
Every recorded cost of goods (COGS) entry of a product: from which invoice, on what date, how many units at what purchase price, and what COGS resulted. The trail for answering "why did this product's COGS change".
Questions Answered
- When and from which invoice did product X's COGS last change?
- What COGS was used by a sale on a given date?
- What purchase price is behind the COGS of a serial number?
Filters
| Filter | What it does |
|---|---|
| Transaction Date | A range (between), up to (<=), since (>=), or one date (=). Empty means the whole history. |
| Product Code | One product only - handy for tracing the history of a single item. |
| Serial Number | Exact (=) or partial (like), for serialized products. |
| Invoice | The document that created the COGS entry (purchase invoice, goods receipt, production, adjustment) - exact or partial. |
| Created By, Edited By | The user who created or last changed the source document. |
How to Read the Result
One row per COGS entry, in date order. The footer totals the rows and the Quantity.
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Invoice, Date | The stock-in document and date that produced this COGS entry. |
| Product Code, Product Name, Serial Number, Expiration Date | The product (and batch, if serialized) recorded. |
| Quantity | Units received in that entry, in the base unit. |
| Purchase Price | Acquisition price per unit before it is turned into COGS (net of discount, tax included in price, and purchasing expenses). |
| Cost of Goods Sold | COGS per unit after this entry. Sales after this date use this figure until the next entry in the same division. |
This report has no division filter: in a multi-division company the entries of all divisions appear mixed - use the Invoice column to tell them apart.
Why Figures Can Differ
- COGS is recorded when stock comes in (purchase, goods receipt, finished production, adjustment, transfer in). Sales do not create rows here.
- Profit/Loss and sales reports use the latest COGS up to the sale date in that division - a purchase entered with a back-dated date changes the COGS of earlier sales.
- Purchase Price and COGS can differ because the COGS formula (average or otherwise) follows company settings; Purchase Price is only the acquisition price of that row.
- Rows with Quantity 0 or COGS 0 usually come from adjustments or rewards; check the source document through the Invoice column.
