Sales Commission Rules
The commission formulas used by the Process button in Sales Commission. Each rule has a category (Product, Transaction, or Receivable) and a formula using variables the app provides.
When To Use This Form
- Before the first commission period is processed - without an active rule, commission is always zero.
- When the commission scheme changes: create a new rule rather than editing the old one if old periods must remain re-processable.
- Service Staff Commission Rules is the twin form for service staff, with Product and Transaction categories only.
Fields To Watch
| Field | What to watch |
|---|---|
| Description, Display Name | Internal name and the name shown on the commission document. |
| Category | Product: computed per product line sold (commission per item/brand/group). Transaction: per invoice (percentage of turnover, target bonus). Receivable: based on collection (commission follows payment). |
| Formula | JavaScript code returning the commission value; uses the variables available for that category (turnover, profit, target, quantity, price, payment, etc.). |
| Available Variables, Available Functions | Helper lists for composing the formula - pick one to insert its name. |
How Rules Are Applied
- On Process, each rep is computed with every active rule: Product rules run per product line, Transaction per invoice, Receivable per payment.
- With Accumulate Commission Rules on in the period document, results of all matching rules are summed; off, the first matching rule is used.
- Results show separately on the document and report: Product Commission, Transaction Commission, Receivable Commission, then Total.
Common Problems
- A faulty formula stops Process: test with a small period first.
- A Receivable rule yields zero: the period document has not turned on Commission Follows Payment.
- Changing a rule does not change already-posted periods - unlock the posting and re-process if that is intended.
