Production Operation
The master of production work steps - cut, assemble, pack, test - with unit, default labour rate, duration, work center, and wage account. This is the list picked when composing the operations of a product BOM.
When To Use This Form
- Before composing a BOM: every work step to be scheduled and costed must exist here.
- When a step's default labour rate or work center changes.
- Deactivating a step no longer used without deleting its history.
Fields To Watch
| Field | What to watch |

| Name, Unit | Step name and its operation unit (per unit, per batch, per hour). |
| Labour Cost | Default rate per operation unit; can be overridden per product in the Production Operation List (BOM). |
| Duration, Time Unit | Default working time per unit and its unit (minutes/hours) - basis for work-order finish estimates. |
| Work Center | Required. The work center (machine/line) from the Work Center master where this operation is done. |
| Direct Labor Wages Account | Required. The expense account charged with this operation's labour cost when production is posted. |
| Active | Off = not offered in BOMs, work-order history kept. |
Common Problems
- Operation missing from the Production Operation List: inactive, or not saved yet.
- Cost on the work order differs from the master: the product BOM overrides the default rate - check that product's Production Operation List.
- Work Order by Operation groups by this master; a renamed operation is renamed in history too.
